Hard-to-read day. Persistent or gliding-snow problems can mask the real risk.

Avalanche Problems

Dry snow level 3 Wind slab + Persistent weak layers dry All day
N, NE, E, W, NW
above 2800m
In some places avalanches can be triggered in the old snow and reach large size in isolated cases. This applies especially on shady slopes above approximately 2800 m. In addition the wind slabs of the last few days are prone to triggering still. Backcountry touring calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.
Wet snow level 2 Wet snow wet All day
SE, S, SW
As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more frequent small to medium-sized gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are possible.

Snowpack & Weather

Snowpack

Sunday’s fresh and drifted snow has bonded well with the existing snow surface. Especially in the regions exposed to the most precipitation in southern Grisons, avalanches may in places still be triggered in fresh and drifted snow.

In particular on north-facing slopes above approximately 2800 m and generally in the high Alpine regions, near-ground layers have become faceted. As demonstrated by avalanches that have been triggered, in these regions avalanches can start in the old snowpack and sometimes become large.

As a result of sunshine and warming temperatures during the day, gliding avalanches and loose snow avalanches are to be expected.
