Plain English first: Snowdesk is a free avalanche information service. It does not replace the official bulletin published by your region's avalanche warning service, professional avalanche training, or your own judgement in the mountains. Your safety is your responsibility.

1. About Snowdesk

Snowdesk is operated by Hugo Rodger-Brown ("I", "me", "my"), an individual based in London, UK. Snowdesk displays avalanche bulletins published by the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) for Switzerland, by ALBINA / EUREGIO for Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino, and by Météo-France for the French mountain ranges. It publishes no avalanche forecast of its own. There are no employees; the service is run entirely by the sole operator.

2. Acceptance of terms

By accessing Snowdesk at snowdesk.info, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

3. The service

Snowdesk provides:

A viewer for avalanche bulletins published by SLF (Switzerland), ALBINA / EUREGIO (Tyrol, South Tyrol, Trentino) and Météo-France (the French ranges)
An interactive map showing current avalanche danger ratings by region
An RSS feed per country, which lists each bulletin as it is published and needs no account
An optional free account, which holds the places and regions you pin, the routes and trips you save, and the map areas you download to read offline

Snowdesk is provided free of charge. I reserve the right to change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time without notice.

4. Safety — please read this

⚠️ Avalanche bulletins are a forecast tool, not a guarantee of safe conditions. Snowdesk is an information service only — it does not replace the official bulletin published by the avalanche warning service for the region you are in, professional avalanche training, or your own assessment of conditions in the field.

Snowdesk aims to render each bulletin in full — every danger rating, avalanche problem and comment the issuing service published. Nothing is withheld or summarised away. It remains an information service: the avalanche warning service that issued the bulletin is the authority on it, and every bulletin page links back to the official source so you can check it for yourself.

Avalanche conditions change rapidly and vary with aspect, elevation, and recent weather. No digital service can capture every local hazard.

Before entering avalanche terrain, you should:

Check the official bulletin for the region you are heading to — the European avalanche warning services are indexed at avalanches.org
Seek current local knowledge from guides, hut keepers, or ski patrol
Make your own on-site assessment of conditions

Your safety in the mountains is your own responsibility.

5. Intellectual property

Snowdesk's original content — including the interface, design, and copy — is owned by Hugo Rodger-Brown. You may view it for personal, non-commercial use. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or republish it without permission.

The avalanche bulletin data displayed on Snowdesk is published by three avalanche warning services — the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, ALBINA / EUREGIO and Météo-France. The SLF and ALBINA bulletins are licensed under CC BY 4.0; the Météo-France BRA is used under the Météo-France open-data licence. Each service retains the intellectual property in its own data. 6. Provider disclaimers

Each avalanche warning service publishes its bulletin for information purposes and sets its own terms for the use of that data. Those terms apply to you as a reader of Snowdesk exactly as they would on the service's own site.

Per the SLF data-service terms of use, SLF makes bulletin data available for information purposes only and accepts no liability for the delivery of that data or for decisions made on the basis of it.
ALBINA / EUREGIO publishes the Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino bulletin under CC BY 4.0. See avalanche.report's open-data page for the terms that apply to its data.
Météo-France publishes the BRA under its open-data licence, which sets out the conditions of reuse and the limits of Météo-France's responsibility for the data.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Scrape or republish bulletin data commercially without the issuing service's permission — each of SLF, ALBINA / EUREGIO and Météo-France licenses its own data and retains the rights in it
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to Snowdesk's systems or data
Use the service in any way that violates applicable law

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Snowdesk and its operator shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of — or inability to use — this service. This includes, without limitation, any decisions made on the basis of avalanche information displayed on Snowdesk.

Snowdesk is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, timeliness, or fitness for a particular purpose.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the effective date at the top. Continued use of Snowdesk after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
