Avalanche Problems

Dry snow level 1 No distinct problem dry All day
All aspects
above 2000m
Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found especially in extremely steep terrain and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Even a small avalanche can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack & Weather

Snowpack

The snow line on northern slopes is at 1800 m and around 400 m higher on southern slopes. At high altitudes, there are patches of continuous snowpack in gullies and bowls on shady slopes. The snow is significantly deeper above 2800 m.

In particular on north-facing slopes above approximately 2800 m and generally in the high Alpine regions, near-ground layers have become faceted. As demonstrated by avalanches triggered on Sunday, in these regions avalanches can start in the old snowpack and sometimes become large.

Outlook

Conditions will be mostly sunny in the mountains on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will remain very mild with a zero-degree level above 3000 m and the southwesterly wind will be light to moderate.

Avalanche risk will decrease.
